Medway ICT Services and the Medway Grid for Learning have, for some time, been looking at options to upgrade the bandwidth of the broadband services to schools and corporate sites on the Hoo Peninsula. Sites in the central Medway are served by a minimum 10mb circuit whereas sites on the Hoo Peninsula were receiving 2Mb at best and the Riverside Leisure park a mere 256K.
Medway ICT have worked together with the Schools Services Commissioning Team to find an alternative cost effective solution. A number of options were considered and evaluated, but finally it was agreed that a point to point wireless network would be the most beneficial system in terms of cost, reliability and performance. Following a tender exercise, MLL Telecom were the successful bidders with their proposals for connecting the sites on the Hoo Peninsula. Working together, a number of logistical challenges have been overcome to secure a viable solution.
Work has now completed to connect all the sites that were part of this project and we would like to thank Peter Good, James Willard, Marc Dermody, Steve Smith & Chris Gutsell from Medway Council’s ICT department, Jacqui Moore from Schools Services Commissioning Team, and the contractors from MLL Telecom for the successful completion of this project.
