One of the UK’s largest regional PSNs goes from strength to strength.
London, UK – 15 October 2020: MLL Telecom, a leading provider of secure managed network services to the UK public sector, today announced it has been awarded the contract to further extend the EastNet Full Fibre Network WAN service.
This follows a joint initiative by East Northamptonshire Council and Borough Council of Wellingborough to join the EastNet partnership which comprises Councils and Health Trusts across Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire and Milton Keynes.
The new shared contract between the two Councils in Northamptonshire will see around 20 sites being connected, mainly office buildings in and around Corby, Kettering and Wellingborough, allowing council employees to benefit from ultrafast gigabit internet services.
MLL Telecom will carry out the extension of the EastNet WAN service over the next three months. It is being procured under an existing Framework Agreement between MLL Telecom and Cambridgeshire County Council which oversees the management of the shared Public Services Network (PSN) resource.
“This new initiative will allow many more council employees to use high-speed internet for accessing a range of next generation digital services,” said Stephen Hills, CPSN/EastNet Service Manager. “It is in line with EastNet’s policy for improving the productivity and convenience of council staff and local communities.”
Added Shaun Ledgerwood, CEO of MLL Telecom: “We are very pleased to see East Northamptonshire Council and Borough Council of Wellingborough joining EastNet so soon after MLL’s successful overhaul and upgrade of the existing WAN infrastructure to Full Fibre. Their support is further testimony to the success of the EastNet partnership as well as the trust placed in our managed network services – this all bodes well for the continued expansion of the network in the future.”
Serving over 15,000 public sector employees, EastNet is one of the UK’s largest regional PSNs, operated by Cambridgeshire County Council, Northamptonshire County Council and Milton Keynes Council. In addition to District, City and County Council offices, the growing number of sites connected across the region via EastNet include schools, NHS Foundation Trusts, public libraries, and village halls.
MLL Telecom was appointed in 2018 to upgrade and extend the EastNet infrastructure to enable Full Fibre WAN services, including gigabit internet and public WIFi. The migration of all existing EastNet connections to Full Fibre was successfully completed in June 2020.
