The IT Strategy Summit – South: Speakers and agenda announced

With six weeks to go to the IT Strategy Summit – South, MLL and the South East Grid (SEG) consortium are excited to announce that the expert speakers are now confirmed.  Read on for a flavour of the hot topics being planned for discussion throughout the day…

Taking place on Thursday 7th November at the AMEX Stadium, Brighton, The IT Strategy Summit – South is a free event being co-hosted by MLL and the South East Grid consortium. It’s designed to provide a platform for sharing market and technology insights with IT leaders from public sector organisations and finding solutions to their current and future ‘real-life’ digital transformation challenges and requirements.

This is why the direct feedback provided by a wide cross section of delegates planning on attending has helped us enormously in shaping the day’s discussion agenda. This will ensure all topics are targeted to engage and resonate with all attendees, from Kent to Cornwall, whether from Local Authorities, NHS, Emergency Service or third sector organisations.

What’s on…

The opening keynote presentation by Matt Scott, CDIO of East Sussex, Brighton & Hove and Surrey Councils will discuss the efficiency, productivity and financial benefits of collaboration across the region. Matt will speak to the importance of close cooperation across the sector and particularly the importance of inter working between the NHS and Local Authorities to drive efficiencies and improve citizen outcomes.

He will be followed by Cameron Major, Director of Oxygen Insights, who will delve into public sector priorities, technologies and trends, based on his firm’s extensive analysis of local authority and NHS spending and budget data. This is particularly timely with health & social care now accounting for 40% of local authority budgets and the growing need for stronger synergies between the NHS and local government. With a special focus on the South of England, Cameron will be exploring the upcoming procurement plans and top spending categories for both the NHS and local government and what they can tell us about the technologies that will be in demand in the next 18 months.

Alison Young, techUK’s Director of Local Public Services will lead an interactive workshop focused on the sector’s hottest topics, gleaned from the suggestions many delegates are putting forward. If you haven’t done so already, please don’t forget to include your topic of interest when registering.

From what we are seeing so far, here are few of the areas that will be on Alison’s list:

  • AI and Big Data
  • The cyber threat and managing the risks
  • Extending networking reach and zero trust
  • Invest to Save initiatives and maximising resources with limited budgets

Following a buffet lunch – offering further opportunity for discussion and informal networking – the afternoon will feature a series of succinct case studies and Lessons Learnt sessions:

MLL’s Head of Pre-Sales, Andrew Shilton will be discussing how organisations can improve security and user experience with limited resources and share examples of how Software Defined Networking is being deployed effectively in public sector organisations.

Damon Thomas, CEO of Sensei and Sean Green, experienced public sector CIO and Transformation Specialist, will examine the game-changing potential of AI and the Internet of Things. One such focus will be on how to leverage these technologies for connecting NHS Primary, Secondary and Adult Social Care – transforming delivery models that can truly enable and empower independent living.

Between the presentations and workshops, there will be ample time during lunch and coffee breaks to visit the stands of key suppliers, for example, Fortinet, Netcall, Gamma Telecom, Schools ICT, SEGfL, Sensei (IoT) and Oxygen Insights.
