Nowhere’s out of reach for our Mobile Network Field Engineering team
MLL’s RAN Field Engineering expertise is in big demand to deliver more capacity to our UK Mobile Network Operator customers.

MLL Mobile Network Services is working around the clock installing the latest 5G network technologies while also maintaining all previous generations. Successful customer delivery is an absolute priority as is the Health & Safety of our personnel.
But getting it right first time, every time, not only requires the dedication and skillsets of our highly trained certified and accredited engineers. Our worldclass logistics and planning operation ensures they are fully briefed and in receipt of the information and equipment they’ll need. They also have direct access to MLL’s solution and network architects, the expertise of a radio specialist network designer and a technical support manager.
No job is too complex as just a few of our recently completed projects goes to show:
Night Moves
The location of the monopole combined with the weight of the antennas to be removed and replaced required heavy lifting gear. Working at night also meant powerful arc lighting was necessary. This needed months of planning in advance including securing the necessary consents from the authorities for road closures after 6pm over four consecutive nights.
Just the tonic
Here MLL was required to install a new 5G antenna atop an old hospital roof. Being inaccessible to our engineers via the stairway or lift meant the only solution was to erect an elaborate scaffold in an adjacent inner courtyard. This was tricky too, making the removal of a window necessary just to get the scaffolding in!
Pick of the Crop
In this four-day project, dealing with height, weight and dense woodland were the added complexities faced by MLL’s RAN Field Engineering Team. A cherry picker proved to be the perfect solution for gaining safe and direct access to the existing cell site which required an extension and headframe change for accommodating new antennas.
Safety Lesson
Carrying out necessary RAN infrastructure works at a school put an extra special focus on Health & Safety. Adding to the challenge, our RAN Field Engineering Build team had to factor in sharing the scaffolding with another party who were performing buildings maintenance works at the same time. To make this situation work safely and smoothly for everyone concerned called for careful coordination and a thorough risk assessment.
A Winning Team
MLL’s RAN Build Team brought their A-game to Woking FC, turning a challenging 5G upgrade into a resounding win. The challenge? Accessing antennas positioned high on the stadium rooftop, an extremely difficult location to reach, made even more complicated by surrounding trees and restricted entry points.
A 50-metre MEWP provided the reach and flexibility needed to overcome these obstacles. This cherry picker truly proved to be the game changer, giving us the reach we needed to get the job done.
It took thorough pre-match analysis; detailed surveys, close coordination with the site provider and teamwork with surrounding business owners. After months of planning, the site has now been built, commissioned, and fully integrated, a textbook finish by our talented field engineers
