Pervasive wireless networks
(WiMAX and WiFi networks)
When a customer needs broadband speeds without having direct line-of-sight between the transmitter and the user, we'll usually recommend a pervasive wireless network. In fact, we designed, built and operated the UK's first successful WiMAX trial (for Maidstone Council as part of the MWAG consortium).
Using technologies such as WiMAX and WiFi, pervasive wireless networks can support a level of mobility ideal for nomadic users or temporary services to CCTV cameras.
The majority of our pervasive wireless networks are used for traffic control systems, CCTV backhaul, enabling healthcare in the community, mobile broadband access (for public sector employees) and wireless VoIP. We can also use them to expand digital inclusion, by filling in broadband 'notspots'. What we like about about pervasive wireless networks is that a single network can deliver any number of these applications simultaneously, whilst offering traffic management across them all.
WiMAX or WiFi?
Each technology has trade-offs in terms of reach, cost and mobility. Our expert team of network designers will make sure you select the right one for your application, both now and over the lifetime of the network.
Both WiMAX and WiFi can operate in what's often referred to as 'unlicensed spectrum', which simply means that anyone is entitled to use it. Potentially this can impact service levels either immediately or, if someone else uses the spectrum, in the future. MLL Telecom's Ofcom operator licence means that we can deploy these systems as 'light-licensed', which means we register the spectrum use on behalf of our customers and get advance visibility of any other planned usage.
In-house network planning and design, backed up with 24/7 monitoring by our dedicated engineers
MLL Telecom has both planning and design capabilities in-house, meaning we can offer everything from network design to line of sight surveys. And our Network Operations Centre is manned by qualified engineers, who are there to keep an eye on things around the clock. This means our customers will always be able to talk directly to someone who understands and can fix their problem. In 90% of cases, however, we pick up on faults before the customer is even aware of them. Partners and end-users have access to our secure web-based interface so they see into our Network Operations Centre.
For each network we deploy, we provide dedicated SLAs, as well as regular performance reports and monitoring. Beyond that, we will discuss tailor-made recommendations with customers, focusing on ways to improve service levels.
We're dedicated to offering optimum lifetime design throughout our networks, not just at the initial stages. And because we're a fully licensed operator with code system powers, we automatically have the planning permissions we need to rapidly deploy wireless circuit deployments. When it comes to pricing structures, we're flexible: payment terms can be adjusted to reflect the customer's budget profile.
