Why Don't I Just Use the Browser?
Ian Catlin - 8 July 2011
I just had a thought... One of the things that I now rely on is the ability to move between various computers, you know, laptop, desktop, server, phone, tablet etc. and still get my browsing environment, which of course now includes my documents, calendar and email thanks to Google Apps. It wasn't all that long ago I had to remember all the key urls, but now they're available via bookmark synchronisation on all the platforms I use. However, I've noticed that when using the new tablet and phone platforms, I tend to use "Apps". Apps tend to be rather more specific to the platform, so I'm installing different Apps on different platforms to get the same features I get from the browser...
Question is, why don't I just use the browser?
Well, in general Apps give a better experience than the browser right now...
Mind you, if the quality of mobile browsers and the supporting backhaul networks continue to improve, maybe I can return to the single "App" (the browser) to access my whole world. Simple, now that would be nice wouldn't it?

Nice thought Simon, the -aaS acronyms are filling up fast quickly so I suggest you move quickly to put in a claim for MaaS (Mobile-as-a-Service) before its too late (although you may need to use C for Cellphone for it to have any resonance in the US) !

What about a "Cloud" service, that runs a virtual phone and hosts all your apps for you. no need to reload when you phone gets lost, is smashed, or is flat of battery. With a browser access interface ?
lets call it "MYCloud".
