Megabit

The megabit is a unit of information storage, abbreviated Mbit or Mb. 1 megabit = 106 = 1,000,000 bits which is equal to 125,000 bytes or 125 kilobytes. The megabit is most commonly used when referring to data transfer rates in network speeds, eg a 100 Mbit/s Fast Ethernet connection. In this context, like elsewhere in telecommunications, it equals 106 bits.
